The company Christmas party was this past weekend. I was looking forward to it because I have a pair of awesome shoes that rarely get out. (That's right- my social life revolves around which shoes I'm anxious to wear.) The opportunity to play dress-up was exciting but I also heard a rumor that Jeff Foxworthy was going to be there!
I have a little black dress that I usually try on before events such as this and wear for about half an hour before I lose the nerve to actually leave the apartment in it. I know from experience that "dangerous" outfits always look better in the privacy of my own home than they do when I'm walking across a room full by people. It's like a fashion magic trick. "Hey, not bad!" I think, when I'm looking at myself in the bedroom mirror. But once I get out in public, the dress becomes too short, too tight and too revealing for any self-respecting woman to wear.
I took off the fabulous dress and put on something safe: pants and a nice top. The ensemble may have been a bit on the boring side but I reminded myself that my awesome shoes would save the day. I just had to make sure everyone noticed them. Not to worry, I have a subtle little trick I've perfected over the years. I bring one foot up about waist high, point and say, "Look at my shoe!!" Works every time.
There was a cocktail hour, followed by a delicious meal. By that time enough wine had been served to prime us for the next phase of the party: live music and dancing. Woo-hoo!
Steve is thinking, "They're doing it wrong." |
Is that Jeff Foxworthy on the left?? OMG!! |
And they're still dancing... |
The band didn't want to see my shoes. |
Awesome, right?

I hope you and Greg were dancin' up a storm in those party shoes!! Merry Christmas!
You are too funny! With cold Canada weather, you all dressed like it was summer... sleveless tops? holy cow! I was expecting the high turtle neck sweaters! "nice shoes" Greg! Oh, and yours are nice too... ;o) From cold NE friend
I was super bundled up for the walk and train ride over. I'm always hot these days and never wear long sleeves indoors. Turtle necks would suffocate me. I wish I could wear them, though. It would hide my turkey neck and fat arms. lol
