Whatever Happened To...?

I was thinking about the good ole days in Taylorland when we would stay up way too late in GC chat because it was just too much fun to leave. We made friends there. When GC shut down, some of us met at a closed blog for a while. For different reasons, people started to peel off, getting back to their lives.

So I was wondering if anyone has heard from any of those regulars that don't show up anywhere anymore? I'm also nostalgic for a few posters from GC who weren't necessarily friends of mine, but who used to contribute a lot to the conversation there. Here's my list (in alph order). Tell me if you have any news about them. Add to the list, if you like:

basenji
DebSays
E!!!!
OhKay!
squeebee
six (6)
soultrain
texan
tojo
wompuss

P.S. Look what I found when I did a google image search for "Gray Charles."

I've seen a few of them. LOL

Who? I worry about OhKay! whenever she comes to mind, because the last time we "spoke" she was pretty distraught.

I'm sure they're around somewhere Caryl but I've not encountered them.

Jan, do I hear an echo? LOL

I haven't seen OhKay, but I've seen some of the others around. I remember DebSays and Basenji from Gray's but I haven't seen them around in a long time. I miss the old days. Wonder how Gray's doing. :-(

Jan always chimes in at the right time! I'm glad you still pop in now and again.

Why the hell did I put my photo as my avi? I'm so effing sick of myself! I'm going to change it.

Caryl, I check your site daily! I am a diehard fan! I just don't comment a lot and, by the way, I like your photo - get your hands off that avi!

Caryl, You mind have been reading my mind. I was in a hotel room very early Sunday morning and finding sleep quite elusive. And I began to think about just this topic. I get very nostalgic and teary eyed when I think about "early Taylor" and "Gray Charles Chat".
I have kept in touch with E. She began her own event planning business early last winter and at last report she was putting in 14 hour days and doing well. She doesn't have much interest in Taylor anymore and seems to view her wee morning chart hours as more of a "phase". I think Kay posts on another private form. She just uses the name Kay. I believe Womp keeps in touch with Tojo. Bt the way, in case anyone is interested Gray Charles ( although he doesn't use that name) has another blog he has had open for a while. Here is the link http://www.popculturetourettes.com/

You MUST have been reading my mind !! LOL

By the way Caryl, I love you avi too. You are BEAUTIFUL !!

caryl said...

Thanks, bluesy, but I'm really not beautiful. That's just a good picture. I know I don't take compliments very well, but that's the truth.

Thanks for filling me in on some of our old buddies! I've been to Gray's new blog and I think it's a snooze-fest! ha!! I still have an e-mail address for OhKay! but she has never responded back to me.

Maybe some more people will check in and give us some updates.

I recently saw Squee bee posting on The Boogie. I really miss those days of chatting on Gray charles also. I had a ball doing that.

Oh, the old Gray Charles days. Damn, that was such FUN. The chat until 3 in the morning on the weekends almost got me divorced. It was nearly worth it. And we were so raunchy!! That was the most fun I've had in ages and well, it introduced me to some really wonderful and spectacular people whom I have the pleasure of knowing now. A good investment of time, I say.

As for the lovely Womp (who I *heart* to pieces), here is her blog url which is linked on mine. She hosted a few of us when we went to Mississippi last year to see TH in action and she was the picture of charm and hospitaility. I'm a decided fan:

Hey, Caryl, I'm drinking coffee right now from my Gray Charles dot com mug. Tif bought it for me! It's my favorite one.

caryl said...

Thanks, CW!

SR: Did tif buy that mug recently? I have a gray charles t-shirt that I bought to wear to the first concert.

Wompus and Squeebee are around...I have their email addies, and Squee is on Myspace. And Womp has her own blog...CW isn't it linked on yours? I think Squee knows where/who 6 is.

I keep in touch with Kenzie, of course, CW, of course, Cherie (forgot what name she used on GC...maybe Bug?), Dana, Kelley, Chiguy, Tex, Jan, Incog, Peanut, and Bluesgirl, of course. I also talk to GC on the rare occasion. But everyone has faded back into their regular lives. And yes, pctourettes is a snoozefest! Too bad, really...

Hey Caryl,

It's DebSays here. I enjoy your writing. Honest and easy-going.
I am a huge fan of Dachshunds (sp.
I'm dancing daily. Modern, ballet, jazz, in Manhattan and elsewhere. I love world music.

Dancing currently to Adele, the 19 year old phenom...check out her Dylan cover "Make You Feel My Love" and a slowly choreographed piece to a track with "Dreamer...". As you can see I'm rusty. It was great to uncover such a nice vibe.

be easy,
Deb

caryl said...

Wow, it's so cool to hear from you, Deb! I used to look for your comments at GC because they were so eloquent and thoughtful.

Are you a professional dancer? What did you mean when you said, "as you can see I'm rusty"? Where you pointing me towards a video in your comment?

It's good to know you're still around and aware of the Taylor community. I thought you had disappeared into thin air. I would love to hear your thoughts on his career now.

I forgot to tell everyone how much I miss them !!! It was so nice to hear comments about Gray Charles Days and find that I was not the only person who had fun staying up all night. Man, we were some crazy bitches !! (((HUGS)))

Hey Caryl,

"Rusty" was referring to the off the cuff recommendation of Adele. The song we're dancing to is Day Dreamer.

I'm at an apprentice level not professional level.

Personally speaking, life is much too brief to "perform" the way someone else wishes you would. Our gift to each other is to truly be ourselves and to appreciate the uniqueness in everyone. If Taylor feels similarly, I hope he is staying his own personal course.

I'm so happy to find you pursuing what you love in your way.

Peace...Deb

Ah, the good ole days, i.e., Camelot -- a brief shining moment.

DEB!!! Good to "see" you.

Texan stops by my blog every now and again and Tojo has a photography site, I believe. A few old GC regulars come by my blog at
http://musicmaven.wordpress.com, however most have "moved on" passed Taylormania.

It was good times, however...good times.

This is fun, having people drop in and leave a note! Good to see you Music Maven! I didn't realize that you posted as Double D. I remember that name.

Personally, I think someone effed up when GC shut down, but who knows what Gray was wanting in order to continue. I personally know a few people who dropped Taylor like a hot potato when the site shut down.

And-I ask this question every time the subject comes up- why aren't the archives available to us? There's a lot of great information in there that's lost to the world. I'd like to use it as a reference when I write about Taylor. When I whined about it in an e-mail over at pctourettes, gray wrote back and said, "Who's this Taylor Hicks you speak of?" Same old Gray.

"When I whined about it in an e-mail over at pctourettes, gray wrote back and said, "Who's this Taylor Hicks you speak of?" Same old Gray."

Here today, gone tomorrow. Move on. It's obvious "Gray" didn't get ($$) what he wanted out of this so he moved on. That's life.

Why is anonymous being mean to me? Maybe it's just tough love, cuz how could anyone be mean to me? I'm adorable. (I can still call Doug "Gray" if I wanna, btw.)

I'll try to let it go, but damn! there's a wealth of info that's just gone.

How are people finding this blog post, anyway? I mean, I'm delighted!! Just curious.

I'm not being mean to you Caryl.
My question is what was "Doug's" motives regarding this "Gray Charles" blog in the first place?
Was he really a fan of Taylor's - or was it all about the almighty $$ while the striking was hot?

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it ws the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way.

Of course, it was nothing like that. It was a website that sucked up too much time and money and, while most of it was good, it came with a whole bunch of bad.

I never hung out in the chat portion of Gray's; didn't have time for those 3 a.m. chat sessions. I did read Gray almost daily; at least a few times per week.

Charcoal,it's the Idol fan syndrome. Concerning Taylor it emerged worse than many other contestants because of his very difference. His potential. The way he worked the show and how he won.

Julie said...

Caryl, I think you found Gray!

And people are finding this entry cause they have some kind of google alert for anytime Taylor's name is mentioned on the internets...at least I think that's how it works. This is all new to me. ;-)

Happy Halloween!

But this one didn't come up in a google alert.

yeah, I'm glad to hear from Gray but now I feel like a dick for saying his new site is boring. Sorry, dude!

Gray is back and badder than evah! I see he hasn't lost his flair for the dramatic. And like my coffee, I like my bloggers dark and bitter.
Love ya, man.

Basenji here. The truth is I never left you, all through my wild days, my mad existence...

I Google the dude, see if he---oh, a snippet of a new song!

Fucking tease.
