The Houston Rodeo

Opening fireworks (click on the arrow):

Last night my husband and I were invited to enjoy the Houston Rodeo from a Sky Box.

There were about twenty of us sharing a room with a buffet dinner, free drinks, TV monitors, private bathroom and access to our own stadium seats. I'm not a fan of rodeos, but this sounded like a civilized way to go. I could watch the action or not.

I was told there would be live music as well, which I'm always up for.

The featured performed last night was Clay Walker.

I've never heard of him. No kidding. The announcer told us he's sold over ten million albums! Still, I didn't recognize him when he came out. I'm not a fan of country music and I guess I've done a pretty good job of avoiding it.

He's good. Though his band was set and ready to rock on the center stage, he entered the arena on horseback. Yee-ha!!

(This isn't actually him, but that would have been great if it was, right? haha)

He served up a very polished show, complete with some simple choreography (tilting his black cowboy hat at the appropriate moments, swiveling his hips, flashing a huge smile), lots of loving words for Houston and Texas and America. *sniff* It was very effective.

I got to wear my awesome cowboy boots, so that alone was worth it.

Caryl, Sounds like you had a nice time, not a big rodeo person myself. Never heard of Clay Walker either, but the video you put up I could listen to more.

Caryl, I'm sorry that your feelings have been hurt by someones words. I have always enjoyed your blog whether it is Taylor or just about life in general. You really are a talented writer, always with a bit of humor included. It saddens me to think that those persons words who don't know and enjoy you have forced you to make your decision. I will still look and read, but you need to do what is best for you.

At least you have "awesome cowboy boots". I'm impressed.

Box seats? Great !!
A Houston rodeo experience is a must around these parts.

Some friends of ours took us the night before you were there. We saw Alan Jackson. ONE OF MY FAVORITES. We missed most of the rodeo, cause our night was the second night of the rodeo, and the traffic getting in there was terrible !!

Alan Jackson was great. Even though I have not listened to the radio much in the past few years, I recognized most of the songs he did. I love it when they do their classics !

Glad you had a good time, havingfun! It was quite an experience.

Thanks, JI. I realize I'm too sensitive, but I really don't want to be involved in any fan wars. I'm not going to jump on to her site to defend myself because I've seen other people try and the bashing just gets worse and worse.

I'm already in a vulnerable state because of my personal life and I'm easily hurt. Also...well, I'm used to people liking me! I always treat other people with kindness, so that's how people usually treat me. This is new to me.

Caryl, I am also sensative, shy like you. I would also be hurt and running a little scared myself. But Sunny pointed out if you enjoy this and you seem to walking away is what they want then they won. Trying to defend yourself like you said would only stir up more stuff, just going about what you do and ignoring would hopefully make it stop. Nothing you put up is attention getting, you speak from your heart and experiences thats why I enjoy reading here. I respect your feelings and as I said you do what you need to do to make you feel comfortable. To see you walk away from the fan base would be sad, no one is worth giving up on something that gives you pleasure.

I'll give it some thought. I've gotten some other nice nice e-mails that make me want to reconsider.

Not into rodeo myself but with the deal you had I think I might enjoy it. I'm another one who would really miss your Taylor comments. I check in daily hoping to see something new, interesting and fun.

Hi Sweetie! I know you don't like rodeos but that sky box was awesome! How did you take those pictures, with your camera or your phone? They were really good.

From the comments I read, there seems to be something going on with your blog column that stirred up some controversy. Don't listen to the negatives - you are a talented writer and a great observer and you give insights and details that most of us miss. Keep doing what you love to do.

Love, Mom

A rodeo, huh? I've never been to one, but I'm thinking a sky box would definitely be the way to go about it!!

Glad you had fun!

Mom, somebody called your shy little girl an "attention whore." Isn't that a laugh?

I love rodeos! Box seats though man, that's the way to go. I barrel-raced for a while; had a freaky little paint mare who loved to run the barrels.

We haven't been in a long time, but used to hit the Mesquite rodeo quite a bit. Yeehaw is right. hahaha

My favorite boots are tan suede with handmade soles and stacked heels. Fit like a glove from the moment I bought them.

Wow, Sunny! Barrel racing? But you're a Texan, right? I'm from Lawn-gi-lind (Long Island). ain't no rodeos there.
